O ast Sunday at Hillside we studied some of the basic things Jesus told His followers after the crowds began to grow. He made a comparison between two types of builders. Most children who have been around church very much know the song. “The wise man built his house upon the rock…” has been sung for years. Jesus pointed out that only those who act upon what He taught are wise builders. The one who hears His words and doesn’t act upon them is the fool. Many folks in church today don’t have trouble believing or understanding the teachings of Christ. The problem is simply doing what we know He meant for us to do. Jesus told the listeners that when the storms of life come we would need to be solidly planted on right actions not just right knowledge. In the sixth chapter of Luke Jesus challenges those benefiting from His ministry to put His truth into action and build a real rock-solid faith. When the storms of life take a heavy toll , maybe it’s because we haven’t built on the right foundation.

Our church is blessed with many children. Last Sunday afternoon about thirty children sixth grade and under went on an outing to a Springfield park. They enjoyed the park, a meal and Bible lesson outside. For some, the bus ride was also part of the treat. We are thankful for the children and their sponsors.

Hillside is planning another Fall Festival for October 31st this year. Last year’s festival was very successful and gave the children a positive alternative to Halloween activities. This year more exciting games and fun things are being planned. Lots of free candy and enjoyable fellowship will make this festival better than ever. Mark your calendar so you’ll remember Hillside on Halloween.

This week our “Ever Faithful” group of retirees is having its bimonthly luncheon Thursday at 11:30 am. These folks always have a wonderful meal and really enjoy each other’s company for a couple for hours. We will also have a brief devotional and talk about some things we can do to minister to the needs of others.

This Saturday a Missions Group will be going to Show-Me Christian Youth Home at Camdenton, MO to help with some projects. The group formed a few weeks back to help where and when they were needed. Last Friday several of the men went to Maranatha Bible Camp and spent the day building things the camp could use. It’s always a blessing to serve the Lord through the needs of others.
