The idea of giving thanks is one that comes to mind this time of the year. People start making plans for the big day. Those blessed with family to go see often do. Diets are put aside long enough for an indulgence some of our favorite foods. Some will remember to say a few words of thanks before they dig in. It is important to stop long enough to acknowledge the real source of all the good things we are surrounded with. It's easy to think little of where it all comes from. We can even mistakenly think we are self-made and did it all ourselves.

At Hillside Christian Church last Sunday we talked about getting back to the true Source.

Malachi writes an interesting warning in the third chapter of His short book. God has him write that those who do not give to God are robbing Him, but that those who do will be blessed to overflowing. The Father is giving all of us a lesson in spiritual integrity and inviting us into a partnership with Him. There is nothing cheap or selfish about this relationship. God loves His children and wants to be part of our lives in this very personal way. By trusting Him as the real source of all we need He helps us in ways that allow us further His kingdom and bless others.

When our hearts are in our giving it is a demonstration of our living faith in Him. He always blesses true faith. If we trust Him with eternity surely we can trust Him with the present, even our finances.

This coming Sunday is a big day for Hillside. We will have our annual Thanksgiving dinner at 5:00 pm at the church. It is a time for all of us to celebrate the blessings in our lives we have witnessed the past year. We always have many things and people to thank God for and praise Him for everything He's done. During the service we will acknowledge our new Christians and new members who have become part of Hillside since last Thanksgiving. These folks will be our guests for the meal as we glorify God together.

We are excited about an event we are hosting on November 22nd. Linda Mirante, a nationally known speaker will be at Hillside to present an evening seminar on positive choices for teens in relationships. Parents are also invited. Food will be available. The sessions begin at 6:00 pm and will run till 10:00 pm. Everyone is invited. Ms. Mirante will be speaking at Marshfield High School during the day as well.
