Who could have imagined we would really have a white Christmas? The childhood dream of many was fulfilled this year. Roads in and out of Springfield were jammed to a stand still and became great linear parking lots for hours. At Hillside, like most others, we had to dismiss our Christmas Eve service and just let God do His thing. It was beautiful. All the power of our culture looks rather fragile compared to the force the Lord expressed with one swipe of His mighty hand. We live our lives and do what we do by His permission. We live every day upheld and protected in the hollow of His benevolence.

At Hillside last Sunday we examined the days after Jesus' incredible birth. After the miraculous events in Bethlehem what did Joseph and Mary do? Our text from Luke chapter two told how they went about their lives and carried out their obligations under Jewish law. They were careful to take care of the details and do everything required. Prophecies were fulfilled and Jesus parents were amazed. The text goes on to say that Jesus grew in strength and wisdom, and that God's grace was upon Him. This is the perfect pattern for us to follow as we look at living another year before the Lord in our churches, families and community. If we'll follow God's plan He will bless and lead. We intend to do that in all things at Hillside.

After having a marvelous Christmas program the 15th then missing our Christmas Eve service, we are looking forward our Candlelight Renewal service the evening of New Year's Day at 6:30 pm. We will come together to praise God for all that He has done and ask His blessing and leading in all that we hope to do for Him in 2003. God has richly blessed our congregation and we want to thank Him for it. We also want to ask Him to guide us in the coming year as a church and individually. This is the perfect time to get real about putting God's will first in everything we plan, say, or do. Everyone is invited to join us for this special opportunity.

The best resolution is the one that fulfills our commitment to God. Let's resolve to let Jesus truly reign as Lord and Christ. After all, Jesus saves. Isn't this really what it's all about?

May you and yours be blessed in the coming year.
