ne of the most fascinating things about Jesus is how as Creator and Sustainer of the universe He chose the role of servant while on earth. Last Sunday at Hillside we looked at His example and the example of His closest followers, the apostles. Jesus washed the disciples feet, healed the sick, and did numerous miracles for those that society had ignored or cast off. The apostles often worked to support their own ministries and the churches they dealt with. Many of them were abused by the evil or ignorant and by the vices of the Roman government. Most died martyr's deaths and suffered for their faith.
It is shocking to look at religion today and compare the pomp and circumstance that surrounds those leaders who use it with the real heroes of our faith. To be true followers of Christ we must seek to be like Him in all things. How much attention do our leaders need? Who are the real servants like Jesus and what are we trying to become in His name? Who is the greatest indeed? Remember, Jesus even washed Judas' feet with the same hands that would be nailed to the cross. He taught His followers that the one who was least among them all was the greatest. This has to teach us all a lesson in how to be like the One we claim as Master and Savior.
Our Wednesday evening fellowship and study has been growing in a wonderful way. We have been making a meal available at 6:00 pm for those coming for study at 7:00. This has proven to be a valuable help for some families and others who need the break. We are beginning a study on God's pattern for relationships. This is recommended for family, or personal situations that need the positive pattern given in scripture. We are planning an enjoyable and entertaining evening for the fourteenth of February for Hillside's annual Sweetheart Banquet.
Our youth and sponsors have collected funds and a large quantity of laundry soap for the Show-Me Christian youth home in Camdenton. They plan to deliver the soap personally as soon as a date can be arranged with the home. We believe this is another way we can serve like Jesus.
You are always invited to join with us in praising and serving the Lord at Hillside Christian Church.
