Winter weather has been a problem for those trying to have meetings and church services lately. We have had to cancel a few of our own and never do like it. Last Sunday was another occasion when we were able to gather to praise the Lord in the morning and then decided, for safety reasons, to not meet that evening.

While we were together Sunday we talked and studied about a couple of examples from the Old Testament that demonstrated the wisdom in how God works and some things required of those who would follow His plan. In chapter two of Joshua a woman named Rahab was wise enough to know the true God and made arrangements, or a plan, that allowed for saving herself and her family. In chapter three of the same book is another example of following the plan from above and reaping the reward. The priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant were able to cross the flooded Jordan River while God held back the water because they obeyed God's plan and literally stepped out on faith.

These are both good examples to teach us the two-part procedure necessary for following God's inspired plan for our lives. We must first put our faith in and accept His plan. Secondly, we have to act upon our faith or convictions. This example of really following God is repeated many times in Scripture. God wants us to follow His perfect plan more than we do. He knows it is the best for all concerned.

Last Friday evening we were blessed with a wonderful Valentine's Banquet that included good food and entertainment. Nearly 50 couples came out to share the occasion and reinforce the importance of and joy in their relationship. The men in a special ceremony presented all the ladies a flower and chocolate. Our Heavenly Father has given us many gifts in this life and the marriage relationship is just another one to give Him praise for.

This Friday evening at 7:00 pm Hillside will begin three days of great services for anyone wanting to learn more about serving the Lord. Dr, Terry Bowland, a professor at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, will be speaking on how to serve God. Terry is an engaging speaker who accurately brings the truth of the Bible to life. Nathan Shaver and his group will be leading the worship and have a free concert for youth after the Friday service. Everyone is invited.
