Last Sunday was a glorious day at Hillside Christian Church. The improved weather and a strong hint of spring in the air fit perfectly with the spirit of fellowship everyone enjoyed. With a packed house and extra seating in the worship center the elementary Bible school classes opened the service by reenacting David's ordination of Solomon as the new king of Israel. The children blew their trumpets and shouted praise to God just as the Israelites did a few hundred years ago. It was a great way to open the service and begin our worship and praise time.

After sharing in worship and the Lord's Supper we studied from the marvelous book of Philippians. The apostle Paul taught in chapter three how important it is to not grow complacent in our spiritual life. Paul said that even though he had many things he could be proud of he chose to count them as rubbish because of the call of following Jesus. He wouldn't let earthly status or image or problems hold him back. He also taught the importance of taking hold of Christ as He takes hold of us. This handshake of faith is necessary if we are to respond fully to forgiveness and the life God offers in His Son. Our positive action is required, not just our consent. Paul also wrote that he knew he had not attained perfection, but that he would press on toward the prize offered in Christ. This attitude of perpetual growth in the things of God and service to Him reminds us again that we all have to keep pressing on as well. Our last great thing for God, or our last big problem can't hold us back from what He wants us to do next. We have to press on for the cause of Christ. We have to keep growing and maturing to be more like Him. If Paul hadn't attained it we haven't either.

This is a big week for the Hillside youth. They are having their Annual Rummage Sale to help clean out closets and raise funds for youth activities and trips. This effort allows the youth to do a service and participate directly in funding their ministry and outreach. The sale will be indoors in the Hillside fellowship hall and will run from Thursday morning through noon on Saturday. Donations can be made at the church and pick-up of large items can be arranged. For service or questions contact Sam Wilkins at the church on 859-7502.

Due to the Rummage Sale preparations there will be no Wednesday night meal provided at the church. We will have our regular study at 7:00pm for all ages.
