The month of October is a month of change every year. Our climate changes from semi-summer to downright cold and nasty some years. The leaves in our trees begin the month holding on to branches and a little bit of green. By the end of the month many are on the ground after giving us all a beautiful display of how God changes things. Our dress code usually changes too. Warmer clothing feels good in the evening and we may take a jacket with us in the morning when we go on our way to wherever.

For some these are hard changes that are dreaded all year. For others falling leaves are glorious, and the colors leave behind images that we cherish long in to winter. It is a turning point that signifies the passing of time and another season.

During the month we have talked about various things that change in our studies at Hillside Christian Church. We've looked at "Changing Views", "Changing Loves", and "Changing Priorities". The Bible is full of people who encountered the Lord and made real changes. For them their change in behavior resulted from their changed hearts. We often get it backwards in church life today. We are tempted to think that if people act like we think they should they must be right with the Lord. We want to "fix" ourselves and others from the outside in. Jesus saves people from the inside out. The difference is profound. One is real, while the other is fake or only temporary. Eventually our real priorities are shown in our actions and we question whether God's work in us and others actually makes any difference. It takes work to be honest enough with God to let Him really change and save us. One of our goals in following Christ is to continually let Him reveal our deepest needs and His ability to be all-sufficient for them. Sometimes we need His healing and forgiveness, while at other times we need His correction and guidance. If we are willing to allow Him to really know us He can really help.

We are excited to have our annual "Children's Fun Fest" this Thursday night from 6:00pm -8:00pm here at the church. All children are invited to come in their favorite non-scary costume for lots of games, prizes, candy, and fun. All activities will be staffed by people who love kids and enjoy seeing them have a safe evening of fun. Refreshments will be served. Parents are invited to come and watch their children have a great time. The activities will be held indoors rain or shine.
